For decades, Myers Park High School has been a vibrant education institution in Charlotte. Scores of amazing teachers have challenged and inspired students to excel in academics, arts, and athletics. Myers Park graduates have achieved success in every sphere.
However, 26% of the Myers Park High School 2024-2025 student body, roughly 850 students, are considered economically disadvantaged and do not have adequate resources for success. They face poverty, homelessness, or other incredible social challenges. Without additional support, many would fail to graduate with their peer class. The Myers Park High School Foundation tackles this problem "head-on" with its mission to enhance the educational experience of Myers Park students by expanding opportunities, addressing unmet needs, and funding innovation. The Foundation currently financially supports one full-time Youth Development Coordinator from Communities in Schools and a full-time Graduation Coach who work daily with some of the most critically underserved students at Myers Park. The Foundation also provides funding for Mustang Matters, an after-school program whose mission is to: support students in achieving the required credits needed to graduate from high school in the student's cohort year; provide a supplemental tutorial environment for students to succeed in academic courses; and increase students self-awareness, self-worth, and future ready goals.
The success of these programs allows more students to finish high school in four years and be on track for enrollment, enlistment or employment post high school graduation.
In 2023, with a combined effort between Myers Park High School administration, the Myers Park High School Foundation, and the Huff family, the MPHS Student Wellness Center opened. This special space, inspired by and dedicated to the memory of Jason Huff Jr., has the intention of improving the mental health of all students at Myers Park High School. The Foundation was pleased to be able to provide funding for a calming, home-like environment where students can retreat, relax, de-stress and de-escalate.
Our Current Need:
The Foundation's mission has never been more important due to economic strains on students, their families, and our local communities. Our partnership with Charlotte businesses is critical and we are asking for your support for 2025. By providing annual support to the MPHS Foundation, your company's commitment to the youth in our community will be recognized at all our events and public channels, such as:
- Art for the Park is the signature fundraising event for the MPHS Foundation, and we are thrilled about our event on February 21, 2025, at the Bojangles Coliseum Complex. This event brings MPHS parents, alumni, and staff together to enjoy food and music while bidding on artwork created by students and local artists.
- The Foundation's annual campus luncheon is open to the local community and alumni. At the luncheon in April, we celebrate the accomplishments of students who have participated in programs funded by the Foundation, acknowledge the tremendous effort of the staff and community partners who have worked tirelessly on behalf of the students, and recognize our generous supporters.
- The Foundation has an extensive online presence and is active across multiple social media channels. In addition to being recognized at our signature events, our sponsors are featured throughout the year across all our digital platforms - informing students, families and alumni of the role individual companies play in supporting critical needs.
